MONTVILLE TOWNSHIP, NJ - Celebrating 100 years of service to the community, Excelsior Fire Company No 1 beginnings trace back to the year 1910, on August 1, 2010, of that year the Township’s first fire company was formed and included 29 volunteers. Over the past century, the fire department and the town they protect, has grown immensely! To mark their anniversary, the fire company held an open house on July 17, 2010.
A party was held during the day during the day, followed by a wetdown for their new Pierce pumper Engine 352 at night. Surrounding towns from Parsippany, Boonton, Kinnelon, Elmwood Park, West Paterson and Middletown Township were some of the departments who arrived to share in the festivities. All of Excelsior’s apparatus were on display, including their original 1932 Buffalo pumper, which was fully restored after it was returned to the fire company in 1976, after many years of neglect and outside storage. Fully restored today, it is a wonderful reminder of the past and a show piece of the department. The calibration lasted well into the night; enjoy some images from the event.
