DERRY, NH - Derry Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire on December 23, 2009 at 3:20 p.m. after receiving multiple calls for a building on fire at 52-54 W. Broadway.

Command was set up on side A as arriving companies found the front of the building scorched on the A-B corner. All companies went to work checking the interior basement, first and second floors for extension, while Engine 1 wet down the area.

Truck 1 was set up to remove vinyl siding from the two and a half story, wood frame 26'x48' balloon type construction building. Engine 4 tied into the plug immediately to feed engine 1 in case there was any extension.

This was a quick knock down by the Derry companies which overhauled the area aggressively. All companies cleared the scene with in minutes.

Due to a quick response and aggressive tactics by the department the residents of the multiple family dwelling will be having a Merry Christmas at home this holiday season. The cause was careless disposal of smoking materials.
