Derry firefighters help rescue person involved in snowmobile accident on lake

HAMPSTEAD, NH - Firefighters from several towns were called out late Thursday night for a reported snowmobile accident on Big Island Pond on the Derry Hampstead line.

Emergency personnel had to walk out onto the lake about 200 yards to find a person who had been thrown from his sled while riding in an area of the lake that had been drawn down for the winter and hit a frozen patch of dirt.

The victim was transported by Derry medics to a landing zone where he was flown by medical helicopter to a Boston Massachusetts area hospital.

There were no other injuries and the New Hampshire Fish and Game is doing the investigation.
