Chief McPherson reporting under control.
WINDHAM, NH - Windham Fire Department responded on February 7, 2010 at approximately 9:13 a.m. to a reported building fire at #8 Hunt Road located along Rockingham Road at Seavey Pond.
First arriving firefighters encountered heavy smoke and heavy fire in a one story residential home. Windham Fire personnel made an aggressive interior attack, along with mutual aid companies. There was heavy fire damage in the kitchen, living room and attic area. No one was home at the time of the fire however three family cats did die in the fire.
A neighbor who lives next door was watching the home while the homeowners were away. He reported that as he was leaving his home he noticed heavy white smoke coming from the chimney. When he returned home a short time later he saw heavy black smoke coming from the chimney. While his wife called 911 he went over with the key and attempted to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher to no avail. The remainder of the home suffered severe smoke and water damage.
Mutual aid from Derry and Salem assisted at the scene while Hudson and Londonderry provided station coverage. No injuries were reported. The fire is currently under investigation.
