Derry battles second alarm house fire

DERRY, NH - Monday afternoon, January 4, 2010 Derry Fire alarm received a call for a reported house fire at 328 Island Pond Road.

First due Derry Engine 2 reported on scene with smoke showing soon by heavy fire showing from a attached garage. Due to the volume of fire and being out of the water area a second alarm was sounded bringing in help from nine area towns with tankers and manpower.

Firefighters made a vent hole to try and stop the advancing flames from getting into the main house.

Firefighters worked for over an hour to bring this fire under control and were able to stop the fire from the main house.

Chief Klauber reports a possible cause might be from a wood stove. One firefighter was transported with a hand injury to a local hospital.

The American Red Cross assisted the home owner.
