LEBANON, ME - On the evening of Monday, November 30, 2009 at approximately 6:37 p.m. the Lebanon Fire Department and Rescue Squad responded to 20 Evergreen Lane for a reported furnace fire with possible extension into the ceiling.
Fire crews arrived on-scene at 6:41 p.m. and located a single wide mobile home with no smoke or fire showing. Crews entered the building and encountered moderate smoke conditions. Upon investigation crews determined that there had been a fire in the furnace which was extinguished by a neighbor prior to the arrival of fire crews. Crews checked the building for extension and determined that the fire was contained to the furnace.
No one was injured and the home will be habitable as soon as the furnace is replaced.
This is the second fire related to a heating source in the last two weeks in Lebanon.
Lebanon Fire Department would like to remind everyone to have their heating systems; including the chimney serviced and cleaned annual by a licensed technician and chimney sweep prior to using for the heating season.
An annual cleaning of your furnace or boiler will provide maximum efficiency at the start of the heating season. That means your furnace will be more reliable, use less fuel, be safer, and will last longer.
