Traffic accident on Carl Broggi Highway.
LEBANON, ME - The Lebanon Rescue Department, Lebanon Fire Department and Maine State Police responded to a motor vehicle accident with injury on Carl Broggi Highway in East Lebanon on Tuesday afternoon, December 1, 2009. The accident was reported at 3:27 p.m. The accident occurred by Spruce Street and the Colonial Mobile Home Park.
Lebanon Rescue Captain Natasha Kinney was traveling behind the accident vehicles and immediately came across the accident after it occurred. Captain Kinney found two cars still in the westbound lane with heavy damage. Both vehicles had one occupant in them each. Both were reported to be wearing their seatbelts. Captain Kinney established EMS Command and started additional ambulances.
"It was reported to the emergency crews that a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu traveling west bound had slowed because traffic in front of her had stopped for a school bus letting kids off at the mobile home park. A 1997 Ford Escort also traveling westbound behind the Malibu wasn't able to stop in time and struck the rear of the Malibu. This area has seen several serious accidents over the past few years. It is on top of a small knoll and sometimes the sun glares just right and its hard to see cars slowing. Fortunately no one was seriously hurt and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts." Assistant Chief Jason Cole stated.
"Our ambulance was transporting from another medical call when this call came in, so ambulances from Acton and Sanford were started to the scene to assist with the patients. Lebanon's ambulance responded to the scene after completing the first call and Acton ambulance returned." Assistant Chief Cole added.
The driver of the 2005 Chevy Malibu Classic was driven by a 76-year-old female from Rochester, NH. She was transported by Lebanon Ambulance to Frisbie Memorial Hospital with what appear to be non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the 1997 Ford Escort was a 17-year-old female from Lebanon. She was evaluated on scene by rescue personnel but not transported to the hospital.
One lane of Carl Broggi Highway was closed for about forty minutes while emergency crews worked at the scene.
Both vehicles were heavily damaged in the accident and had to be towed from the scene.
Trooper Fenderson of the Maine State Police is investigating the accident.
Emergency Crews cleared the scene at 4:10 p.m.
