The Upper Guinea Road accident with injury.
NORTH LEBANON, ME - The Lebanon Rescue Department, York County Sheriff’s Department and Lebanon Fire Department responded to two motor vehicle accidents on Wednesday afternoon, June 24, 2009.
The first accident was reported at 2:00 p.m. and was located on the Depot Road in North Lebanon. The accident occurred near 334 Depot Road.
“A 2006 Chrysler Pacifica SUV was traveling north on Depot Road when the operator advised emergency crews that her wheels went in the soft sand and the sand pulled her vehicle off the road. The vehicle continued down an embankment just missing a telephone pole and came a few feet from entering a small river that runs under Depot Road by the power lines. The back wheels were off the ground. She was very lucky that the vehicle did not roll over and into the water. The driver was a 37-year-old female from Acton, Maine. She had a 7-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son in the back seat. Both children were properly secured with seatbelts and the youngest child in a full five point car seat. The mom was wearing her seatbelt as well. None of the occupants were injured in the accident.” Assistant Chief and Public Information Officer Jason Cole advised.
Depot Road was closed to one lane for about an hour and a half while emergency crews worked at the scene.
Deputy Travis Jones of the York County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident.
About two hours later, at 4:08 p.m., a 2007 Chevrolet HHR was traveling east on Upper Guinea Road in front of the Hanson School when it reportedly tried to avoid something in the road and went off the road and struck a tree and stone wall. Captain Natasha Kinney arrived quickly with the first response vehicle and established EMS Command.
“The driver told us he tried to avoid something that came into the roadway, not sure if it was an animal or something else, and he left the roadway, went over a curb at the entrance to the school and then struck a tree and stonewall head on. He was transported by Lebanon Ambulance to Goodall Hospital in Sanford with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. He was wearing his seatbelt and the front airbags did deploy.” Assistant Chief Jason Cole advised.
The vehicle sustained heavy front end damage and had to be towed from the scene.
Upper Guinea Road was closed to one lane for about an hour while emergency crews worked at the scene.
Deputy Kevin Ledoux of the York County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident.
