This Ford Thunderbird was involved in an accident with injury on Friday, July 31st.
LEBANON, ME - The Lebanon Rescue Department responded to a two vehicle accident with injuries on Carl Broggi Highway on Friday, July 31, 2009. The accident occurred on the Carl Broggi Highway at the intersections of Center Road and Long Swamp Road. The accident was reported around 12:33 p.m.
Lebanon Rescue Lieutenant Diane Elliott was traveling in the area and came across the accident just after it happened and called for additional responders due to having three patients. Lieutenant Elliott established command.
"It was reported to us that a 1996 Ford Thunderbird was coming off Center Road and went to stop for the stop sign at Carl Broggi Highway and was unable to stop and subsequently struck a westbound 2005 Lexus ES330. The operator of the Thunderbird explained the vehicle had just experienced a mechanical issues and she could not stop in time before the collision. Fortunately, the people in each vehicle were wearing seatbelts." Assistant Chief Jason Cole stated.
"The driver of the Lexus, an adult female from Tilton, NH, was transported to Frisbie Hospital in Rochester with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. The two occupants of the Thunderbird, a 18-year-old female driver from Lebanon and her 17-year-old female passenger also from Lebanon, were shook up by the accident but did not require transport to the hospital." Assistant Chief Jason Cole added.
Trooper Linscott of the Maine State Police is investigating the crash.
Emergency crews were on scene until 1:45 p.m.
"There have been several serious accidents at this location, including two fatal accidents in the past few years. It really is a dangerous intersection. The state installed traffic pre-emption signs to alert motorists of traffic coming on Carl Broggi Highway, but we still continue to see several accidents." Assistant Chief Jason Cole added.
The Thunderbird suffered heavy front end damage and the Lexus suffered passenger side damage. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
A Frisbie Memorial Ambulance responded to the scene to assist Lebanon Rescue.
