Washington County Firefighters Respond For Multiple Vehicle Fire In Smithsburg

WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD - May 18, Crews from Smithsburg Fire Company 7 were alerted at 20:14 hours for an investigation in the area of 21409 Jefferson Boulevard. Washington County dispatch took multiple reports of a large column of smoke coming from the local salvage yard in that area. Fire Police 785 from Smithsburg Fire arrived on the scene five minutes after dispatch to find multiple vehicles on fire in the salvage yard.
Captain Johnson of Smithsburg fire arrived on the scene directly and assumed command. Command then requested an additional engine from Leitersburg Company 9 be started to assist. Smithsburg and Leitersburg crews were faced with five working vehicle fires in side the salvage yard.
Crews from companies 7 and 9 battled the blaze for nearly a half hour before bringing the fires under control. The fire was reported out around 21:56 hours by Command at which time Command was terminated by Captain Johnson and crews from both departments began to clear the scene. The scene was then released to owners of the salvage yard.
