WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD - At 5:31 p.m. on December 14, 2008 Washington County 9-1-1 dispatched Engine Co. 4, 2, 13, Truck 2 and Medic 49 to a reported kitchen fire at 13331 Independence Road, east of Clear Spring. Lt. Jenkins from Clear Spring Co 4 arrived on the scene at 5:35 to find a single family dwelling with heavy smoke coming from all sides. Command was established and a working fire assignment was requested. Engine Co. 26, Rescue Squad 2, Special Op’s 20, the Emergency Air unit from Co. 25 and Medic 295 were dispatched.
Firefighters encountered heavy fire upon entering the structure and a defensive operation was initiated until such time as the bulk of the fire was knocked down. After the integrity of the structure was confirmed and the fire the bulk of the fire was knocked down, interior attack was begun. Mop up and overhaul operations were completed around 8:30 p.m. A number of units were released at that time and the remaining units clear the scene at 9:00 p.m.
The State Fire Marshals Office investigated and found the fire to be accidental. No injuries were reported.
