WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD - Washington County 9-1-1 became flooded with calls for a house on fire at 9333 Childacrest Drive off Beaver Creek Road just after 14:00 hours. Fire crews from Mount Aetna, Boonsboro, Funkstown, and Smithsburg were initially dispatched out to the call at 14:07. Car 10-A from Funkstown was one of the first units to arrive on scene minutes after dispatch to find a working house fire.
Firefighter Fuscsick of Funkstown reported his findings to dispatch and requested the second alarm assignment due to the intensity of the visible fire from the exterior. Chief 16 of Mount Aetna Fire arrived shortly after to assume Childacrest Command. Crews from seven fire jurisdictions battled the blaze for over a half an hour before bringing it under control at 14:55.
Command requested several additional agencies to the scene. Red Cross was requested to the scene to assist the family, which was displaced by the fire along with Washington County Humane Society to tend to family pets that survived the blaze. The Maryland State Fire Marshals office also responded due to the intensity of the incident. No injuries were reported on the fire ground.
Fire department crews were able to begin clearing the scene by 17:03 hours at which time Command was terminated. Mount Aetna was assisted by Boonsboro Fire Co.6, Funkstown Fire Co.10, Smithsburg Fire Co.7, Myersville Fire Co.8, Halfway Fire Co.26, Wolfsville Fire Co.21, Boonsboro Ems Co.69, Washington County Emergency Air Unit 25 and Rehab Unit 255.
