CLEAR SPRING, MD - On October 19, 2008 at 11:37 a.m., Box Area 4-03 was struck bringing units from Clear Spring, Williamsport, Hancock, Halfway, Maugansville, Berkeley Springs WV, Air Unit25 and Medic 753 to a barn on fire and impinging on a second bard on Shanktown Road outside of Clear Spring.
Chief 4 from Clear Spring arrived on the scene six minutes after the alert to find a 25x25 barn containing 350 bales of hay fully involved with another barn of the same size with flame exposure. Two 1¾” lines foam lines were pulled from E-42. One was used to protect the exposed barn and the other to attack the fire.
As soon as the exposure was covered with foam, that line was directed onto the involved barn. The fire was declared under control at 12:09 p.m. Units remained on the scene to do overhaul and were released at 1:27 p.m.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office investigated and ruled the fire accidental.
