Leominster firefighters respond to Christmas shooting

LEOMINSTER, MA - firefighters responded to a shooting late morning near Health Alliance Hospital on Christmas day. Firefighters from Rescue 1 and Engine 4 (group 3) arrived on scene to find a 20-year-old male that was shot by police after he had started to attack a police officer with a knife.

The victim had run off from the hospital after going in for physiological reasons and the police were called to look for him. The officer arrived on scene and attempted to question the male when things went array. The police officer then took his stun gun out and fired with no effect due to the heavy clothing the victim was wearing. The victim then took out a knife and lunged towards the officer. A second police officer arrived and had to use excessive force to prevent the attack.

The man was transported back to the emergency room and then taken to the trauma center in Worcester and his injuries are undetermined at this time.
