LaPlata County, CO - Recruits from three LaPlata County, Colorado Fire Departments are seeing the light at the end of the “Firefighter 1” tunnel. A cooperative training effort between the Durango Fire and Rescue Authority, the Los Pinos Fire Protection District, and the Upper Pine River Fire Protection District placed just over forty students in the program that started on February 3rd, 2005. The training was provided by San Juan College in Farmington, New Mexico. With instructors provided by the college, classroom and practical sessions were rotated between the three departments.
Practice burns were held at the college’s fire training facility located on the Farmington campus on May 7th and 14th, 2005. Upon completion of the training students will receive college credits as well as Firefighter 1 certification through the Colorado Division of Fire Safety’s Certification Program. Finals are scheduled for May 21st, 2005
