Hidden Pockets of Fire Being Extinguished at Entryway into House.
DURANGO, CO – On March 2nd, 2005 at 1021 hours the Durango Fire & Rescue Authority was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 156 County Road 239. First arriving units encountered a well developed fire showing from a portion of a one and a half story wood frame dwelling. The bulk of the fire was located in a wood frame and masonry addition, and was knocked down quickly by the first arriving units.
The fire did extend into the main portion of the home and required heavy overhaul to assure all of the hidden pockets of fire were extinguished. The unoccupied structure had been slated for demolition.
Engine Companies One, Two, and Three, Tanker Nine, Medic Two, Battalion One, as well as a number of staff and support units operated at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Durango Fire & Rescue Authority’s Fire Marshal’s Office and the Durango Police Department.
