ARCHULETA COUNTY, CO – Firefighters from the Pagosa Fire District and Medics from Upper San Juan EMS responded to a one vehicle roll over at the 119 mile marker on US 160. The vehicle came to rest at the bottom of an embankment just off the shoulder of the highway. The helicopter crew from Air Care 1, based at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, NM also responded to fly the more critical of the two patients to the hospital.
While one patient was found outside of the vehicle, a second injured party had to be removed from the driver’s compartment. Both patients were immobilized, placed on backboards, and carried up the steep embankment to waiting ambulances. One patient was transported by ground to Durango, and the other that was designated to go by air was pronounced at the landing zone.
At the time of this report, the Colorado State Police are still investigating the accident.
