Tom Aurnhammer is a career firefighter and currently serves as the Deputy Chief of the Los Pinos Fire District in Ignacio, Colorado.
My first tattoo was inked the evening of my father’s memorial service on November 28, 2001. The Maltese Cross, with a mourning band across it, is a tribute to our fallen FDNY brothers. My father’s date of birth, ironically September 11th, and date of death are inked below the cross. The artwork was done by Ernie White of the Tattoo Factory in Ledgewood, NJ. The tattoo is on the upper part of my left arm.
My brother warned me that tattoos are like potato chips, you can’t have just one. I got the helmet done during another trip to New Jersey on September 28, 2005. I incorporated my wife’s initials into the helmet shield. The artwork was done by Tony Sciarra, also of the Tattoo Factory in Ledgewood, NJ. The tattoo is on the upper part of my right arm.
