LaPlata County, CO - The Trail East Fire, located 9 miles east of Hesperus, CO (LaPlata County) started on July 14th, 2005 from a suspected lightening strike. The fire has burned approximately 320 acres.
Firefighters are continuing to construct line around the fire and are utilizing aircraft to support operations. Resources and approximately 59 firefighters from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, National Park Service, United States Forest Service, and LaPlata County fire districts remain on scene.
Gusty winds in the area have hampered suppression efforts. A Type 2 Incident Management Team is en route to the fire.
