Aurora Fire’s PIO Gives a Briefing to the Media.
AURORA, CO - At approximately 9am on June 12th, 2006 the Aurora Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a fire at the Timminco Corporation at 3595 Moline Street. Companies arrived to find a fire in an industrial oven utilized in the extrusion of magnesium from large alloy billets. The fire building and adjacent exposed structures were evacuated. Traffic in the area was blocked off and neighboring occupancies, downwind of the fire building, had their HVAC units shut off as a precaution.
The 90° temperatures concerned command who requested additional resources to the scene, including the Aurora Fire Departments Haz Mat team. Firefighters utilized several hundred pounds of Metal-X extinguishing agent to control the Class “D” fire. The company produces specialty magnesium products, which are used in a broad range of specialized applications. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
