BAYFIELD, CO - September 19, 2005 – Firefighters from the Upper Pine River Fire Protection District in Bayfield, Colorado battled a fire in a single family dwelling at 59 Wasinger Drive. The Upper Pine Fire District was dispatched shortly after 1800 hours, and units reported that they had a heavy smoke condition spotted shortly after leaving their station.
The first units on scene encountered a heavily involved home, and a fully engulfed vehicle parked in front of the fire building. Firefighters had to contend with ammunition going off inside the building at the height of the incident. A tanker shuttle was established to supply water to the crews making the defensive fire attack. The fire was brought under control in approximately 90 minutes. The cause of the blaze is under investigation by the UPRFPD Fire Marshal.
