The Brookhaven Fire Department will be hosting a full day, hands-on training class on June 11, 2011 featuring Firehouse Innovations’ Multi-Force Forcible Entry Door System. It is designed to instruct firefighters on how to gain quick access on various emergency scenes utilizing effective and time-proven forcible entry techniques. The class will be featuring lead instructors John Buckheit who is a FDNY batttalion chief with over 25 years of experince and Michael Perrone who is a member of FDNYs ladder 175 and has over 29 years of experince. Both which have been teaching training seminars for the FDIC for the past four years. At this class firefighters will learn techniques and refine skills to tackle common forcible entry problems. Students will observe access problems and then perform time-proven, state-of-the-art methods for gaining quick access on the fire ground or emergency scene. Students will rotate through stations including:
•Simple wood doors, both inward and outward opening.
•Both one and two firefighter approaches, restricted space.
•Tough metal doors and frames, both inward and outward opening.
•Through the glass and through the lock techniques.
•Storefront narrow glass and metal doors.
•Large mechanical roll-down gates, padlocks, and hasps.
•Light and heavy lock chain techniques both with and without power tools.
Topics include sizing up the access problems, selecting the best course of action, tool selection, carrying, safety and use.
