Sales Rank: Fire Chief Age: 52 Gender: Male Status: Volunteer Years of Service: 31 Date of Incident: 04/08/2018 Time of Incident: 0930hrs Date of Death: 04/08/2018 Fire Department: Reynolds Volunteer Fire Department Address: 235 Charlotte HWY, Asheville, NC 28803 Fire Department Chief: Assistant Fire Chief Kenneth Ledford Incident Description: Fire Chief Richard L. Sales was killed in a single vehicle crash while traveling on fire department business. According to initial reports, Sales was on I-40 Eastbound when he struck barriers in the middle of the road, lost control of his vehicle, and went down an embankment onto roadways below before coming to a stop. The cause of the wreck is still under investigation, but the local news reported it was the same area where a motorcyclist and the driver of a semi-trailer died in separate wrecks on March 31, 2018.
