MANCHESTER, NH - New Hampshire fire departments kept very busy in April with three tragic fires.

Numerous calls came into the Fire Alarm Office reporting a fire at 245 Village Circle Way at 10:50 P.M., and a full response with two RIT Engines and an ALS Ambulance was dispatched on the initial Box. Engine 4, housed about one-mile away from the fire, could see the glow in the sky as they approached the area. Heavy fire was showing from the rear porches with occupants trapped on the third-floor balconies. Firefighters began evacuating and searching for residents trapped. Under extreme conditions, two residents were rescued immediately by Truck 6 and Rescue 1's firefighters. A second-alarm was ordered by Battalion Chief Fosher as firefighters began evacuating the 28 apartments and knocking down the heavy fire in rear porches which soon collapsed. A third-alarm was transmitted for manpower. The fire was brought under control at 12:42 A.M., and the NH State Fire Marshal's office was called to the scene to assist the Manchester Fire Investigators due to the serious injuries.
